What is Catalyst?

Catalyst is a community engagement program where participants engage in meaningful community service and be a spark for change! You and your fellow students will have the opportunity to learn about a social and environmental issue that has an impact on our community, serve alongside community partners in the triad, and reflect on your experiences as a group. Each day has a different theme, view the schedule below and scroll to the bottom for more details about what a Catalyst day is like.

  • Catalyst is FREE to UNCG students!
  • All you need to do is apply to go and attend a virtual pre-Catalyst meeting the week before your Catalyst to make sure you’re prepared and have all the information you need.
  • Each Catalyst has room for 8-13 students and is led by trained student staff from OLCE.
  • Transportation and meals (breakfast and lunch) are provided.
  • Each Catalyst is on a Saturday from approximately 8:30am-5pm, although times vary.
  • Any special equipment needed for the service projects will be provided (gloves, paintbrushes, etc.)
  • OLCE staff can approve these community service hours if you are part of a program that requires service hours (Leadership Challenge, student org, sorority or fraternity, etc.)
