About UNCG OER Mini Grants

The Office of the Provost and the University Libraries join together to support faculty interested in providing their students with a less expensive yet educationally rewarding alternative to expensive commercial textbooks.

The high cost of commercial textbooks (print and electronic) is a major concern for both students and their parents. The UNCG Open Education “Mini-Grants” Initiative, encourages instructors to use open educational resources (OER) materials or low-cost or free alternatives to expensive course materials; these can include open-access scholarly resources, library-licensed and owned resources, and learning objects and texts that faculty create themselves.

This year (2022), we are rolling out a different grant program similar to the traditional "mini-grants" but with more funding options. These grants will be under the title Textbook Affordability Program (TAP). Building off the success of the OER Mini Grants offered in the past, these new grant options provide funding to faculty who would like to replace a textbook or redesign a course using Open Educational Resources (OER), Open Access articles, or library licensed materials, or build their own OER course materials.

To apply for the TAP Grant, please fill out the following form: go.uncg.edu/tapgrant. The deadline to apply is April 4th.
