New general education curriculum for Fall 2021, Minerva's Academic Curriculum (MAC) focuses on the development of eleven competencies (33-34 credit hours) that are important for learning in college and life. MAC’s competency basis means that students don’t have to work through lists of courses in particular disciplines to satisfy requirements—each competency is fulfilled by completing a single course, and most competencies feature courses offered by instructors from several disciplines. This means choice: in most cases, students can acquire competency by working in one of several disciplinary areas. Students who love history or art or science will be able to approach writing, critical thinking, or oral communication from the perspectives that most resonate with them. Students will then deepen and broaden the intellectual skills learned in MAC as they move on to their major courses.
The members of the General Education Council approve Program courses and are responsible for Program oversight. See the Course Schedule in UNCGenie for complete General Education listings. Minerva’s Academic Curriculum Requirements (33–34 total credit hours required) Undergraduate students must select one course from each of the competencies listed below.
