Microsoft Teams Voice @ UNCG

Description

Teams Voice is a calling feature of Microsoft Teams that enables someone to place and receive external phone calls through the Microsoft Teams application.

Eligibility

Microsoft Teams Voice is the telephony solution for faculty and staff at UNCG.

Students are not eligible for the Microsoft Teams Voice service, though eligibility can be granted in certain circumstances (see Microsoft Teams Voice for Student Workers for more information).

Submit the Manage Phone Number form in the ITS Service Catalog to request voice service.

Access

The Microsoft Teams Voice service is accessed from the Calls app in the Microsoft Teams application.

The application can be installed from Application Catalog, Jamf Self Service, or downloaded from M365. A web version is also available by signing-in at https://teams.microsoft.com.

Making External Calls Using Teams

Click the Calls app in Microsoft Teams. Type the number you would like to dial into the box or use your mouse to click the numbers on the dial pad. Use only the 10-digit number; dialing 8 is no longer required and will result in call failure. Click Call.

Microsoft Teams Voice for Student Workers

The standard student license for Microsoft services does not include the license for voice service. Therefore, it is an upcharge to the University for students to have voice service.

UNCG students can be granted access to Teams Voice by request of their department. This is only intended for student workers, graduate assistants, or other similar business cases where a student needs a phone number to fulfill the requirements of a department.

There may be a yearly charge back to the department for each student that is granted access to the Teams voice service. This would be billed on a number-by-number basis (not a student-by-student basis), so a department can move a phone number to a new student at any point during the year and only pay once.

To request voice service access for a student, please submit the Manage Phone Number form in the ITS Service Catalog. Please note in the comments that the request is for a student worker.
