Josephine Martin Flynn (1919-2006) of Henderson, North Carolina, was an officer in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC) and the Women's Army Corps (WAC) from September 1942 to August 1946. She worked in supply, recruitment, and personnel.
Evelyn Patricia Foote Collection
Evelyn "Pat" Foote (b. 1930) of Durham, North Carolina, served as an officer in the United States Army from 1959 to 1989, rising to the rank of brigadier general in 1986. She retired as the first female commander of Fort Belvoir, Virginia, and became a prominent speaker about issues concerning women in the military. In 1998 Foote became the president of the Alliance for National Defense. She continued to hold that role as of 2007.
Brenda Formo Oral History
Brenda Terrell Formo (b. 1946), of Greensboro, North Carolina, served in the United States Women's Army Corps (WAC) and then the United States Army as a finance officer, instructor, and recruiter from 1969 until 1993. She retired as a full colonel after more than two decades of service. Her service spanned both the Vietnam War and the first Gulf War.
